Dr. Simon Powell - Visiting Professor

The University of Wisconsin Department of Human Oncology (DHO) and Carbone Cancer Center had the distinct privilege of hosting Dr. Simon Powell, the Enid A. Haupt Chair in Radiation Oncology, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Professor of Molecular Biology at the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences. Dr. Powell discussed “Targeting DNA repair as an approach to cancer therapy” at Cancer Center Grand Rounds as well as his research studies on BRCA1-BRCA2 signaling in the DHO Cancer Biology Seminar entitled “Understanding the complex relationships in the BRCA1-BRCA2 pathway of genome protection.” Additionally, Dr. Powell served as Visiting Professor to the DHO resident physicians. Dr. Powell has made seminal contributions to the breast oncology and DNA damage fields. He has been a strong voice supporting integration of clinical and basic research. Dr. Powell is a dedicated clinician, an inspired educator and a skilled scientist. His visit was an honor and success for the faculty, residents and staff at the University of Wisconsin.
