Elective Rotation - Surgery
Recommended Length: 4-6 weeks Primary Learning Objective: Gain a more thorough understanding of various oncologic surgeries. Secondary Learning Objectives: Strengthen knowledge of human anatomy, which will assist us in future treatment planning. Learn more about the pros and cons of alternate types of surgeries for a given cancer (i.e. APR vs TME vs LAR). Learning Activity Details: Observe (by scrubbing in) a wide variety of oncologic surgeries; a suggested list of surgeons and procedures are listed below A minimum of five operations per week (some full-day, some half-day) for a total of 4 days in the OR each week Schedule to be established prior to beginning the elective rotation, but adjusted for interesting cases added to the OR schedule When not in the OR (one full day or two 1/2 each week), the resident will have reading time.
