From Human Oncology
Dr. Joel E. Tepper, Visiting Professor
On Sept. 14, the University of Wisconsin Department of Human Oncology (DHO) had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Joel E. Tepper, the Hector MacLean Distinguished Professor of Cancer Research in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. Tepper delivered a lecture titled “Evolving Management of Rectal Cancer” at UW Carbone Cancer Center Grand Rounds and served as a visiting professor for the DHO resident physicians. Dr. Tepper is a talented clinician and researcher with broad expertise in radiation oncology practice with a special emphasis on the use of combined modality therapy for gastrointestinal cancers. He is a past president and past chairman of the board of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) and served as principal investigator for the University of North Carolina’s GI Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) grant. He is also a gifted teacher and mentor, and his visit was well received by the faculty, residents and staff at the University of Wisconsin. The department thanks Dr. Tepper for his commitment to the discipline of radiation oncology and for his highly informative visit and teaching role at the University of Wisconsin.
