Dr. Shannon O’Reilly is one of two recipients of the 2025 Global Oncology Pilot Grants, which support innovative projects aimed at improving cancer care and research in low-resource settings. These one-year seed grants foster long-term partnerships and drive sustainable, high-impact solutions in low- and middle-income countries.
Dr. O’Reilly’s funded project, “Bridging Health Policy, Prevention and Cancer Care Access in Ghana through Education,” addresses the urgent need for cancer prevention and early detection in Ghana, where cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women and often diagnosed at late stages. The project will develop culturally relevant public education resources to raise awareness about cancer prevention, HPV vaccination, and early detection, while identifying effective channels for distribution through multisectoral partnerships and community engagement.
This initiative exemplifies the UW Health Carbone Cancer Center’s commitment to reducing global cancer disparities and empowering communities with knowledge that saves lives.
