DHO Hosts Visiting Professor Dr. Matthew Witek

The Department of Human Oncology (DHO) recently hosted Visiting Professor Dr. Matthew Witek, an associate professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and medical director at the Maryland Proton Treatment Center.

Dr. Witek, a former DHO assistant professor, is a leader in the field of head and neck radiation oncology. He shared his expertise in a seminar titled “A Primer on Proton Therapy and the Maryland Proton Treatment Center Experience.” His talk included a review of head and neck anatomy and the role it plays in radiation treatment planning. He also discussed challenging cases in head and neck radiation oncology and the potential advantages and drawbacks of proton radiotherapy versus photon radiotherapy.
