Meet the Experts: Anna Peters

Radiation Medicine is built on collaboration. Beyond physicians and physicists, an entire team of specialists plays a vital role in advancing patient care. This series shines a spotlight on those professionals—their responsibilities, their expertise, and the people behind the titles. Our goal is to help you appreciate the depth and diversity of work that makes Radiation Medicine possible. From guiding residency applicants and coordinating clinical trials to ensuring accurate radiation dosing and delivering exceptional nursing care, our faculty and staff cover it all.

This month, we’re excited to introduce Anna Peters, Certified Medical Assistant and our May Expert!

1. What is your title and which areas of the Department of Human Oncology (DHO) do you work within? (clinical, research and/or medical education)?
I am a Medical Assistant in the Radiation Oncology clinic. I escort patients to rooms, take their vital signs and prepare them for their visit with us. I also administer injections and assist with procedures.

2. What drew you to the field?
I was drawn to Radiation Oncology through my own experience as a breast cancer patient. I had worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) previously, then pursued a career in education before returning to healthcare. During my treatment, I realized how much I missed working in healthcare and felt strongly called to help others feel supported, comfortable, and cared for throughout their own cancer journey.

I was deeply impressed by the compassion and exceptional care that I received from the Radiation Oncology team at UW Health, which inspired me to become part of the field myself.  I ultimately left education and returned to school to become a Medical Assistant.  It is truly an incredible honor to work alongside one of the Providers who cared for me so well, Dr. Gregory Cooley, as well as Katie Adler RTT. Their kindness and compassion played a significant role in my decision to pursue a career in this department.

3. What is something you look forward to in your job every day, week, month or year? What’s your favorite part?
My favorite part of this job is being involved in patient care and helping patients throughout their treatment journey. I truly look forward to my job each day and working alongside my team. I am fortunate to work with such incredible nurses and providers, who continually teach me valuable lessons and help me grow both personally and professionally.

4. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
When I am not working, I enjoy being with family and our goofy yellow lab. I LOVE the winter months, and snow, but am looking forward to kayaking with family, and friends, this summer!

5. What is your favorite piece of advice from a mentor or inspiring figure in your life?
My favorite piece of advice is from my parents, who always taught my brother, sister, and I that we can do anything we put our minds to. Without their guidance I am certain I would not be the person I am today, thank you Ma and Daddy.

Follow along as we feature a new expert every other month. Don’t miss the chance to learn more about the incredible people shaping Radiation Medicine!
